Suitcase of Memory

A suitcase is a powerful symbol—of migration, of identity. It holds the things we choose to take, the things we leave behind, and the traces of what forced us to flee. It becomes a witness to memory, a container of past and present journeys. Suitcase of Memory is a sound installation created in collaboration with Salah, a young man who was forced to flee Syria. Inside the suitcase are sounds from his past—echoes of Syria, the revolution, the war, but also fragments of a life before everything changed. Each time the suitcase is opened, a different memory plays. A light sensor controls the playback: the wider the suitcase opens, the louder the memories become.
